By Andrew Haigh, Stade Alphonse Theis, Hesperange.
Luxembourg's hopes of a massive upset in this
group A fixture were over within 18 minutes of the kick-off.
Spain went 3-0 up early in the first half with two goals from Aaron Niguez and a single effort from Ruben Ramos.
Niguez scored with just six minutes on the clock when he shot low only for the ball to creep underneath the host's
keeper Fabiano Castellani.
Spain then doubled the lead when Castellani tipped a cross on to the bar with the rebound falling kindly to Ramos
who headed home in to an open net.
Niguez then completed his brace converting impressive striker Emilio Nsue's pin point pass.
At the break Spanish Coach Juan Sanisteban rang the changes as Bojan Krkic replaced Niguez and Cristian Vergara
came on for skipper Cesar Azpilicueta.
Krkic's impact was spectacular as he bagged a second half hat-trick, compounding Luxembourg's misery.
Krkic's first two goals came either side of a Jose Hermosa strike before Miralem Pjanic struck a stunning consolation
with seven minutes remaining.
